ATLANTA (October 9, 2026)—Members of the Fulton County legislative delegation recently toured the courthouse ahead of a renewed push to add another judge to the Superior Court bench. The volume of cases in Fulton County is outpacing the capacity of our current bench of 20 judges, and lawmakers under the gold dome are taking notice. Fulton County operates the busiest criminal and civil courts in Georgia, seeing tens of thousands of cases and growing each year.
Legislators in the General Assembly and the county Board of Commissioners joined the tour, stopping at the Clerk of Superior and Magistrate Courts, Justice Resource Center, Jury Assembly Room, and Superior Court Administration offices. The delegation heard from several Superior Court judges and the clerk of court. In addition to calls for a new judgeship, other topics included a possible increase to the current $25-a-day stipend for jurors, expanding accountability courts, dedicating a full-time judge to the Competency Docket, and addressing housing insecurity for people facing mental health issues.
